Xuvo Carnival 2024 Costume Review

Xuvo carnival band took creativity to another level with their alien theme for Saint Lucia Carnival 2024! From their theme reveal to their launch, and overall marketing, it has been extremely exciting to watch. Now we all remember their dope virtual launch back in 2023. I must say a pre-recorded video this year, instead of a live one, was definitely a step up from last year. Shoutout to their director Loggo Lionel for always putting together a spectacular video. Now let’s talk about these costumes!

Starting with Predator! The name speaks for itself. It’s giving “BADASS” and “Don’t f*ck with me” lol. The details on this costume are exquisite, my gosh! Kwasi Mcdonald ate and left no crumbs with this design. In my opinion, this was the most creative costume out of all of the aliens. The headpiece is my favorite. It looks just like the predator in the aliens vs predator movie. This is also the vip section that includes special perks and benefits such as a roped off area in the band, private drinks and food service, butler service, exclusive champagne bar, exclusive air conditioned lounge bus, costume delivery, complimentary tickets to soakt, … etc. It’s giving rich b*tch! It’s giving bad and boujee! Lol. But don’t get it twisted, the entire band is a premium band. Predator is just an ULTRA premium section, “U.P” ! If I am not in this section it will only be because I don’t want to wear a red costume again.

Liz is a reptilian humanoid, which makes sense because it’s giving snakey vibes, like medusa, and I love it! I especially love the little feathers on the arms and leg pieces. The one arm and one leg fishnet bodysuit is pretty dope as well, it’s different. Designed by Kriston Milano, a name you don’t hear too often, but he is definitely a hidden gem.

Amaxona for some reason doesn’t give me alien vibes. It reminds me of a bird, maybe like a peacock. But, it still goes with the alien theme because apparently there is an alien species of birds, and one of those alien birds is the Sevod Blue Avian. I love the mesh illusion on this costume. It looks like the gems and print fabric is on your skin, but it’s really a mesh fabric that blends so well on the skin to make it look like nothing's there. Shoutout to Alejandro on the amaxona design.

A-Li by Krave the band, with its pink and lavender colors, is giving girly-girl or goddess. According to xuvo, the inspiration for this section comes from the alien species: the elders of Andromeda - human celestial gods and goddesses. It is a cute costume, but it is in fact my least favorite. I don’t really like the backpack. I think I would have liked it better if the backpack was more extravagant, or if there were no orange feathers and instead there were white feathers to go with the pink and purple feathers.

It is nice to see a new designer in the band. New, as in, a designer that I never heard of, and not the same top 5 designers from Trinidad that everyone is always using. @cltouch made sure to stamp his name with this costume! Hexa is giving “buzzzzz” like a bee. The backpack is out of this world! It is extremely beautiful! And, the headpiece with the eyes of a bee, Omg! It’s details like that, that I appreciate when it comes to costumes.

Now most of us have siri on our iPhones, but this Siri is giving sexy nerd! Or, perhaps sexy robot. I am so in love with siri. I think it might be because I have never seen this color combination in a costume before. I am loving the neon green on top of the gray, with a pinch of red. It’s also the creativity of the motherboard fabric and backpack for me! Alejandro has done it again! He always has that one costume that steals my heart.

Now you know Xuvo doesn’t do basic! These costumes might be a little bit out of folks’ comfort zone, but step out of your comfort zone and don’t be basic! I don’t know about you all, but I love creativity and I love getting into character and following a good theme. I am torn between siri and hexa. HELP!! I can’t wait to see all of the aliens land on the road in July!  Click here to register.
